The first class is a combination of hunter and bowhunter education that will be taught in Glenns Ferry, ID, from February 14 – March 1, 2025, at the Glenns Ferry High School.
The second class is a women-only class in Jerome, at the Fish and Game Magic Valley Regional Office, 324 South 417 East, Jerome, from February 20 – 22, 2025. The class is only for girls and women aged 9 and older. The class will be taught by women instructors.
As we enter the new year, the ice fishing season on Lake Cascade is off to a strong start. Winter arrived early this year, and we have received reports of people catching some nice perch, trout, and coho through the ice already. Ice depths are reportedly reaching up to 8 inches on the lake's southern and northern ends, but it is still a little thin in the mid-lake area.
Fish and Game staff will be stocking more than 1,600 catchable-size (10 to 12 inch) trout across the Southwest Region in January.
Starting in early January, Idaho Fish and Game staff in the Southwest Region will begin an aerial survey of the Weiser River Zone elk population. This survey is expected to take several weeks to complete, depending upon the weather. People can expect low-flying helicopter operations for the first few weeks of January.
The application period for Disabled Veterans and Children with Special Needs Special Big Game Tag program runs Jan. 2-31. The Disabled Veterans and Children with Special Needs Special Big Game Tag Program allows a qualified organization to apply for a special big game hunt tag on behalf of a disabled veteran or child with a life-threatening medical condition.
Fish and Game, Magic Valley Region has announced that they will be starting to feed elk at the Bullwhacker feed site starting the week of January 5, 2025, as snow has started to accumulate, and temperatures are dipping.
